Mr. James Edward Greenlee, Sr.

James Edward Greenlee, Sr. was born August 2, 1943 in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He was the son of Mr. James W. and Mrs. Florence Ethel Greenlee. He was called to his eternal home and departed this life on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 after an extended illness. James was raised in Williamsburg where he attended Williamsburg High School and graduated in 1962. He was an outstanding athlete, playing multiple sports, but excelling in football. He was inducted into the Williamsburg High School Football Hall of Fame in 2004. After high school, James joined the United States Army. While in the army, James served as a paratrooper. He also participated in the troop entertainment services where he performed as a boxer, as well as playing football for the Army Rangers in the Inter–Service Football League. Following his three year stint in the army, James went to work at the Lexington Army Depot. He then met and married the former Jeralene Johnson in 1976. James later retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot after 30 years of service. James then became an entrepreneur and opened his moving company, “LexMove,” which he operated with his son “LJ” for a number of years. James became a member of Main Street Baptist Church in 1989 under the pastorate of Elder D. J. Ward. James was a kind and quiet man of strong faith. James lived a godly life. He was a devoted, loving husband and a wonderful father to his children and grandchildren. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV), 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. He kept this scripture close to his heart. James would readily quote this scripture and pray, even in the deepest times of his sick days. Along with his parents, preceding him in death were his son, James Edward Greenlee II, and his brother, Bobby Greenlee. James leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Jeralene; his three daughters, Eva (Richard) Combs of Lexington, Tabitha (Frank) Kendrick of Georgia and Rachell (Quentin) Ivy of San Diego, CA; and his six grandchildren, Jada Greenlee and Kayla Smith, both of Lexington, Chelsea Perdue of Florence, KY, Wesley Oliver of Georgia, and Quentin Ivy, Jr. and Rachelle II (Derrick Carter) both of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Stella Mae Greenlee of Dayton, OH, and Quetta Greenlee and Buelah Walton, both of Louisville; three brothers, Pastor Junior Greenlee of Dayton Ohio, and Don (Alice) Greenlee and Norman (Deloris) Tye, both of Lexington. James also leaves to cherish his memory, several brothers and sisters-in-love: Charity (Warfield) Hill of Louisville, Carolyn Steed, Doralthea (Charles) Rodgers, Tommie Caulder, Peggy (Larry) Arnold, Jannifer (Elder Wayne) Cornelius, Ronald (Vivian) Johnson and Roger Johnson, all of Lexington. Others who he considered as bonus sisters and brothers-in-love included Sharon and Henry Mason, Beverly Hardin and Robert Brooks, Beverly Persley, Rose Sewell, Faith McCoomer, Dedra Williams and the entire Duke and Powell families, all of Lexington.
