Mr. James W. Sykes

James Willard Sykes was born June 23, 1943 in Frankfort, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Christopher Columbus Sykes and the late Carrie Boyd Sykes. He was affectionately called “Bo” by his family and “J.S.” by his friends. James was a graduate of Lincoln Institute in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He served honorable as an Army Medic during the Vietnam War. Over the years he was employed by several companies including I.B.M. and Good Samaritan Hospital. He also owned his own business, J.S. Cleaning Service. He was a member of the House of God Temple #1. For 37 years he was married to the love of his life, Lady Maxine Chambers Sykes. They lived together in holy matrimony until her passing in 2004. In addition to his parents and his wife, “Bo” was preceded in death by his daughter, Troylene Sykes; seven sisters, Nodella Sykes, Mabel Wade, Mary E. Sykes, Alberta Cowan, Juanita Sweat, Henrietta Sullivan and Delena Founder; and four brothers, Christopher Sykes, David Sykes, John Sykes and Robert Sykes. James leaves to cherish his memory his two surviving children, James Jason Sykes and Carolyn Genevieve Sykes; four grandchildren, Octavia Sykes, O'Brian Sykes, Carlon Sykes and Cairo Sykes; three great-grandchildren, Camari Sykes, D’Angelo Sykes and Tayvious Sykes; two brothers, William “Sonny” Sykes and George Sykes; four sisters, Cordia Pope, Odis Johnson, Anna Sykes and Carolyn Sykes; a host of nieces, nephews including special nephew Markus Chambers, cousins, god-children and many friends including special friend/brother/cousin William (June) Rawlings.
