Mr Euka Rook Sales
June 19, 1933 - July 11, 2021
Euka Rook Sales, better known as “Joe,” was born on June 19, 1933, in Roanoke, Alabama, to the late Mr. Paul and Mrs. Martha Sales. He was adopted by the late Mr. Sam and Mrs. Fannie Nesby. Joe passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2021, at his home in Lexington, Kentucky. Euka moved from Roanoke, Alabama to Carrollton, Georgia as a young boy. He accepted his hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Lowell Baptist Church in Carrollton. He migrated to Lexington, Kentucky in the 1950s where he landed a job with Dix & Associates Pipeline Company, where he worked until he retired after 30 years. Never one to let dust settle under his feet, shortly after he took a job with Lexington Fayette Urban County Government's Parks and Recreation Division, where again he worked until he retired a second time after 16 years. The parks that he covered were Masterson Station, Woodland and the one that was dearest to his heart, Douglass Park. It was after moving to Lexington that he caught the gorgeous eye and beautiful smile of a young woman by the name of Virginia Kenion, who he married on November 2, 1962. From their union was born three children. In addition to his wife and parents, Euka was preceded in death by a special daughter (a niece that he raised from an early age as his own) Patricia Garrett Hughes; a great-grandson, Noah Emmanuel Higgins; a brother, Charlie Lee Sales; two sisters, Tommie Garrett and Lizzy May Alexander; a brother-in-law, James Alexander; three sisters-in-law, Liza Sales, Mary Varnado and Mary Kenion; and a nephew, Bobbie Sales. He leaves to cherish his memories, his two daughters, Rosie Elaine Sales Higgins and Priscilla Ann Sales; his son, Joseph Edward Sales, Sr., all of Lexington; five grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Granddaddy" or "Pawpaw," Deon Maurice Garrett of Battle Creek, Michigan, Tamara Lynn Higgins, Tiffany LaShelle (Shaquita) Higgins and Joseph Edward Sales, Jr., all of Lexington, and Johnathan Alan Sales of Greensboro, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Alexander Benton-Higgins, Gabrielle Monet Benton- Higgins and Roman Giovanni Lewis, all of Lexington, and Pharaoh Khi Sales and Carmelo John Sales, of Greensboro, North Carolina; a brother, Willie Sales, and a sister Mattie Sue (Leon) Daniels, both of Carrollton, Georgia; two brothers-in- law, Henry Kenion of Lexington and Michael Drake of Durham, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Angelia Drake of Lexington; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Special thanks to Henrietta Lawton for her special care of our father during his declining health.
