Sis. Anna Sue Edwards Murrell

Sis. Anna Sue Edwards Murrell was born November 11, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Alene Warfield and Lou Jesse Edwards. She was educated in the Fayette County Public Schools (Old Douglass High School). She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Duncan Chapel United Methodist Church, in Jimtown. She later moved her membership to Jimtown Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the world renowned Edwards Sisters for over 60 years. The singing sensation was founded by Shirley Edwards Davis and Patricia Edwards Moore. The original group included Sarah Edwards, Anna Glad, Delores Edwards, Anna Sue Murrell, Bertha Edwards Stewart, Margaret Edwards, Wanda Edwards Jones, Gloria Edwards Tompkins. Opening for musical greats such as Rev. James Cleveland, The Caravan, Shirley Ceasar, Five Blind Boys, and John P. Kee to name a few. Anna Sue is well remembered for singing Precious Lord, Walk Around Heaven, He Kept Me, and Peace Be Still and too many more to name. Her voice impressed so many people including Rev. James Cleveland, who tried to recruit to her to sing with him. She sang in the play “Mahalia” causing a praise and worship break that stopped EVERYTHING until the cast and audience could collect themselves! She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Murrell, a brother, Michael Edwards, Sr. and a sister, Delores Edwards. Anna Sue leaves to cherish her memory six children, Sontina Moore, Adrienne Suter, LaShonda Suter, Antoyne Murrell, LaRone Murrell and LaThon (Henika) Murrell; three brother, Joseph (Tonya) Edwards, Walter (JoCarolyn) Edwards, and Bert (Gail) Edwards; three sisters, Wanda Jones, Bertha (Joe) Stewart, and Gloria (Samuel) Tompkins; four uncles, Bert Warfield, Butch Warfield, Tim Edwards and Luke Moore; five aunts, Min. Mary W. Hayes, Rose Warfield, Gladys Lewis, Corinne Warfield, and Gladys Warfield( of South Carolina), a sister-in-law, Alyce Edwards; sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Glory to GOD!
