Mr. Thomas Edward Meaux

Charismatic. Infectious smile. Encourager. A joy to be around. A friend to many. A gentle giant. These are just a few of the many adjectives that describe the “larger than life” personality we knew as Thomas Meaux. Thomas Edward Meaux came bouncing into this world on September 27, 1970, to the parents of Carolyn Strader Meaux-Emerson and the late Charles Lee Meaux. Thomas was always “busy”... “full of life”... “getting into things.” But one could never really get mad at him because he would smile that “goofy smile” and often all would be okay. Thomas was baptized at an early age and became a member of Main Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Benjamin Stanley Baker. He served with the Royal Ambassadors, sang in the choir and was active in Sunday School and other ministries within the church. Thomas matriculated through the Fayette County School System, attending Garden Springs Elementary, Winburn Junior High, and finally Bryan Station High School, where he graduated in 1988. After briefly attending Lindsey Wilson College, Thomas eventually relocated to Ashland, KY, where he went on to become active in his community through his engagement in Boyd County Recreation and Boyd County High athletics. Later in life, Thomas found himself employed by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy jailer. Within the Boyd County Detention Center, Meaux was described as having “brought a quality that would be impossible to replace” and “full of energy all the time.” Similarly, we knew Thomas as being kind, thoughtful, funny, energetic, and of course, “ALL THINGS UK!” Thomas’s love for sports was exhibited through his avid support for both UK athletics and the Dallas Cowboys; can’t you still hear him cheering for his teams “C-A-T-S Cats! Cats! Cats!” and “How bout them Cowboys!” Thomas was a great cook and he loved showing his cooking prowess on the grill. He could be seen at many of UK’s football games tailgating with his friends, smiling and trash talking about how nobody could cook ribs as good as him! Thomas will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Sarah Strader, Alonzo and Georgia Lee Meaux, and his paternal aunt, Lacey Meaux Woods. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his mother and stepfather, Carolyn Meaux-Emerson and Marvin Emerson; his children, Zachary Holbrook, Issiah Jones, Jacob Greenhill, Dimitri Fife, and Jacquelyn Dominique Meaux; his siblings, Jeanecia Meaux-Branch (Kevin), LaKristie Meaux, Kimberly Alcorn, V.C. Alcorn, Ricky Emerson (Jessica), and Pamela White; his aunts, Charles Anna Doneghy and Bonnie Holman; his uncles, Lacy Strader and Walter Meaux (Dolores); a special friend, Angel Couch; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
