Ms. Mary Grace Higgins

Mary Grace Higgins was born January 21, 1943 to the late Fannie D. Kendrick and William Higgins in Lexington, Kentucky. She was educated in the Fayette County Public Schools, finishing her education at the Old Paul Lawrence Dunbar. Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Keene, Kentucky. While at Macedonia, she served in many capacities like Youth Advisor and Choir Director, on the Usher Board, the Culinary Committee and in the Mass Choir. One of her favorite songs was LOOK TO JESUS. In her later years, she became an Honorary member of West Bend Baptist Church and became the church decorator and Pastor’s Sermon critic. She was affectionately known as Aunt Mae Grace to her younger cousins, Gracey Mae, Amazing Grace, and Grace and Mercy to many others. She was known for designing her own clothes. Mary Grace had a personality out of this world. She had no problem getting you straight, telling you off and putting you in your place all the while, having a smile on her face. But you could not find a more loyal friend. Mary’s passion for decorating transformed every space into a warm embrace of beauty and comfort. The Family tradition that we always looked forward to was the First of November when all of her Christmas trees were decorated, Angels and Black Santa Claus’ in place, and Christmas lights were strung throughout the house ready for the Christmas season. She had an extraordinary knack for bringing life to homes with vibrant colors, thoughtful arrangements, and a keen eye for detail. Mary's love for decorating was more than a hobby, it was a reflection of her generous spirit and creative heart leaving a lasting impression on all who entered her cherished spaces. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of beauty will live on in the hearts and homes of those who loved her. She is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Williams; a brother, Stanley Clark; a sister Barbara Taylor; a niece, Dorothy Demus; a nephew, Thomas Taylor, Jr.; 2 great grandsons, Tyler Williams and Alexander Williams, Jr. and a brother-in-law, John Moffett. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gregory (Jennifer Thomas) Higgins, Veronica Williams, Jeffery (Sharon) Williams, Gwyllyn “GG” (Joy) Edwards, Tomika (John) Taylor; 20 grandchildren, Natasha Williams, Alexander (Shequeta) Williams, Gayrod Edwards, Gare’t Edwards, Gaaron Edwards, Nastassia Smith, Tyrome Williams, Jelayna Williams, LaTreece Cruse, Denzel Cruse, Aaliyah Cruse, BronSon Harris, Janelle (Michael) Kwasnick, LaShanda Cruse, Mia Reed, Deidra Reed, Johnathan Taylor, Essence Taylor, Aurelia Emerson, Ebony Hughes; 51 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters Liz Moffett, Paula Sizemore & Darlene Higgins; sister-in-law, Gwen Clark; stepmother, Sarah Higgins; stepbrother, Darrell Branch; special daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Scales; 3 special sons, Ronald (Renee) Burns, Brian Williams & Darryl Miller; a special grandson, David King, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including special friends, Charles Anna Napier, Ruby Harris, Mary K. Mitchell and Jennifer Knowles
