LAURA W CHILDS

Laura Wendell White Childs, 73, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Homestead Post-Acute Healthcare after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 30th, 1949, in Lexington, KY to the late James Russell and Jane B. White. Laura was a graduate of Bryan Station High School and worked for numerous years in the banking industry. At an early age, Laura accepted Christ at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and continued to be a faithful and humble servant at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, KY , Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Rochester, NY, Second Baptist Church in Mays Lick, KY and Corinthian Baptist Church in Winchester, KY. Laura loved the Lord and devoting her time to the church in various roles including Interim First Lady of Shiloh Baptist Church, First Lady of Second Baptist Church and Corinthian Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Baptist Ministers Wives Council of Lexington. Laura was a devoted member and served as secretary for many years with the Eastern Regional Missionary Institute. She was also a member of the Consolidated District Ministers’ Wives Class. Laura was a warm, loving, and compassionate person who was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She cherished her husband, two sons, and six grandchildren. There was not anything she would not do for them. Her memories will forever be cherished by her loving husband, Reverend Daniel R. Childs, Sr of Lexington, KY; two sons, Dr. Daniel R. (Lynette) Childs, Jr. of TX, Wendell L. (Phyllis) Childs Sr.; three grandsons, David, Wendell Jr., and Darren Childs; of MI; three granddaughters, Avery, Ellison, and Olivia Childs of TX; a brother, James "J.R." White, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Childs of Lexington, KY. Laura is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Teelisha (Jonathan) Higgins and Traci Bledsoe; Adrean (Kevin) Woolfolk, Kimberly (Adrian) White, Damario White, Anesha White, and Jasmyne White. There are a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to list that were always in her heart. In addition to her parents, her sister, Patricia Ann White Bledsoe, preceded Laura in death. The funeral service for Mrs. Laura Childs will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 14th at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, KY with burial at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time for the service at the church. Hawkins and Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted in the care of Mrs. Childs.
