Mrs. Carolyn Alcorn Doty

Carolyn Alcorn Doty (Carol Lee Alcorn) was born on February 27, 1935 to the late William J. and Hester Covington Alcorn in Lexington, Kentucky. She was one of seven children – Gloria, Jean, Evelyn, Ethelda, William, Jr. and Shirley Alcorn. She and her siblings were reared in Pralltown where the Alcorn “gang” was also nurtured by their paternal grandparents, John and Willie Mae Alcorn, their maternal grandmother, Ethel Yancey and numerous other community and church friends. Carolyn attended George Washington Carver Elementary School and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. At an early age, Carolyn joined Consolidated Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Consolidated Baptist Church Health Ministry. As a loving and dedicated homemaker, Carolyn provided a safe, warm and inspiring environment for her husband and her four children. She enjoyed several hobbies, including cooking, sewing, reading, gardening and listening to music. She also enjoyed traveling to various cities with her family. Carolyn was a former Girl Scout and later became the leader of Girl Scout Troop #844. As an active leader, she provided troop members with leadership opportunities and coordinated participation in various special events, camps, and field trips. She also facilitated her troop’s participation in the annual Girl Scout cookie sales. Additionally, Carolyn worked for the community betterment as a Community Health Advisor for Sister to Sister, a Breast and Cervical Cancer Outreach project. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding dedication and service. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hester Alcorn; husband, Ernest “Perk” Doty; son, Ernest Glenn Doty; sisters, Gloria Tompkins, Jean Williams, Evelyn Jones and Ethelda Fergerson; and brother, William Alcorn, Jr. On January 10, 2023, Carolyn’s soul went home to her Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories, son, Darrell Doty; daughters, Karen Doty and Ketah (Keith Bates) Doty (Pittsburgh, PA); daughter-in-law, Clotiella Doty; sister, Shirley Edwards (Portsmouth, VA); and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
