Elder William Robert Mitchell
December 21, 1953 - February 25, 2019
Elder William Robert Mitchell was born on December 21, 1953 to the late Virginia Bell and Robert J. Mitchell. He received his last preaching assignment on February 25, 2019. Mitch, as he was often referred to, worked several different jobs in the Lexington and Danville, Kentucky areas but his main job was working for the Lord. He first dedicated his life to Christ in 1981 in Lancaster, Kentucky. Shortly after he became a member of House of God #2 where he was called to preach under the late Bishop J.B. Thomas, Sr. Around 1995, Elder Mitchell became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he was an associate minister under Pastor Bobby Long. In 2002, Elder Mitchell decided to step out in faith to start his own ministry in Danville, Kentucky that he named Nativity Nondenominational Church. After moving back to Lexington, he restarted the church with his brother, Dewight Jackson, for a while. He later rejoined New Hope Baptist Church where he remained a member up until the time of his passing. His biggest mission in life was to make sure his family knew God! He loved to spread the Word in the streets because he was the streets. Elder Mitchell was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Marshall and Darlene Coffey; a brother, James Mitchell; and his ex-wife, Carmeilia Hines. He leaves to cherish his memory, his four children, Willena Beattie (Lee) Willis of Louisville, Kentucky, William R. Bates, Ashley M. Grevious, and Bernice C. Logan; eight grandchildren, Jocari T. Beattie, Sr., Jocara R. Beattie, Dariona Logan, Christopher Jones, Allen Bates, William Bates, Isaiah Bates and Jaylen Mitchell; a brand new great-grandson, Jocari T. Beattie, Jr.; five stepchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; four sisters, Katie McCowan of Detroit, Michigan, Teresa Mitchell, Carol Mitchell, and Rose Mitchell; two brothers, John Leslie and Joe Mitchell; special niece and caregiver, Cathy Marshall; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
