Mr William Roy Maupin

March 12, 1924 - January 28, 2022

William Roy Maupin was born on March 12, 1924, in Fayette County, Kentucky to the late Joe Searight and Frankie Maupin. He left his earthly home on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 97. “Maup,” as he was known to most, was a truck driver for most of his adult life. Although he was known as “Bill” to those in Columbus, Ohio where he resided for a number of his working years. A dedicated long-hauler, he received several plaques for driving millions of miles. Maup loved to fish but in his later years his passion was making canes out of old wood and tree branches and decorating them with whatever he could get his hands on. Besides his parents, Maup was preceded in death by two children, a son, Micheal Maupin, and a daughter, Gilda Maupin. He had been the last surviving member of his siblings-three sisters, Louella Drake, Nannie Gardner and Georgia Hunter, and four brothers, James Russell, John Russell, Searcy Russell and Cecil Russell. He is survived by three daughters Jacquelyn Maupin, Janet Duncan and LaShon (Micheal) Brown of Columbus, OH; two sons, William “Billy” Maupin of New York and Rasheed Shequelle; nine grandchildren, Nigel (Danielle Nicole) Maupin, Natoloa (Joseph) Weathers, Julia “Poo” Maupin, Barbara Cowen of Fort Wayne, IN, Julia & Carolyn Maupin of Raleigh, NC, Antwan Roberts, Isyauna Shequelle and Keith Hairston, all of Columbus, OH; 20+ great-grandchildren; five or more great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including an especially attentive nephew, Eric Gardner; and a dear friend, Leroy Thomas.
