Ms. Mildred Elaine Marks Carr Matthews was born June 7, 1948 to the late James and Elizabeth Marks. God called her into eternal rest on Monday, October 7, 2019. Mildred joined the Bethel Baptist Church at the early age of seven under the leadership of Rev. Taylor. She graduated along with her sister, the late Arnetta Adams, from Bryan Station Sr. High School in 1967. She was married to Richard Carr of Versailles, Kentucky on November 8, 1969. Mildred worked at several organizations including the University of Kentucky. In 1986 she attended and graduated from The Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Art located in Darien, IL, which has an 85-year tradition of decorating excellence. Mildred sharpened her skills of decorating cakes and pastries and became a master at decorating techniques and development. She often taught students the art of cake decorating,buttercream, royal icing and pastries. Mildred made cakes for events held for the Governor of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky, countless weddings, church and birthday celebrations. She opened her own bakery called Millie’s Cakes & More in Lexington. On December 8, 1995, she experienced a brain aneurysm on the day after her grandson Quron was born. She was not only known for being a Master Cake Decorator, but one who exhibited tremendous Perseverance and Faith in the Lord. She was the proud mother of two sons, Quinton L. (Dr. Abeni El-Amin) Marks and Richard A. (Lashay) Carr; five grandchildren: Jaqueline (Lazarrick) Rowan, Resnesmea Carr, Kadence Ginter, Quinton L. Marks II, and Quron Marks; two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Alexxis Rowan. She had three brothers: the late James (Joyce) Marks, Jr., Lee (Savola) Marks and Rev. William Marks and three sisters: Nell Frierson, Bonnie Smith and the late Arnetta Adams. A host of nieces and nephews: Joe “Jeau James” Frierson, Benjie Marks, Tony Frierson, Shon Adams, Marcus Lane, Dr. Luther (Mynique) Adams, Dr. Janet (Antwane) Hill, Kimberly (Derrick) Winn, Lee (Chiquita) Marks, Jr., William (Alexa) Marks, Jr., Charlestine (Robert) Burnam, Sarah (Elroy) Serano and the late Steven Marks. And cousins: Apostle Thomas E. (Lady Francis)Clark, Jr., the late McKenzie Bradford, David Clark and Timothy Hardin.
