Mrs Louise Berryman-Johnson
August 30, 1921 - February 10, 2021
Louise Berryman-Johnson was born on August 30, 1921, in Blackbridge, Kentucky, to the late Orine Berryman, Sr. and Katherine Taylor-Berryman. After an extended illness, God sent for her to depart this earthly life on February 10, 2021, and to be in presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Granny, Aunt Lou, Mrs. Louise or Great-Granny, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was the youngest of five children and grew up on the family property located in rural Jessamine County. There she learned the value of hard work, patience and love for her family. Louise accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and united with the Macedonia Baptist Church of Blackbridge, Kentucky. There she remained a faithful member along with her family until relocating to Lexington. Later, when her illness prevented her from regular attendance, she would always reminisce about the days when she went to church and learned about God, whom she loved so much. Even when illness caused her to slow down, she always remember that, “There’s not a friend like Jesus,” and she sang it with vigor. Louise met and married the late Oscar Johnson, Sr. in 1944, and unto this union four children were born, Oscar, Jr., William Orene, Martha Louise and Francis "Frank." She always spoke of her children and how much of a blessing they were to her and her husband, each in their own way. Around 1968, she and Oscar relocated from Keene, Kentucky to Uttingertown, in rural Lexington. She lived there until shortly after the death of her husband, Oscar, on October 13, 1979. In November, 1979, she relocated to the West End Neighborhood of Lexington, where her daughter Lucie, son Frank and several of her grandchildren, Manuel, Stacey, Aaron and Alana, resided. She later moved to Indiana, residing in South Bend until her homegoing. Besides her parents and her beloved husband, Oscar Johnson, Sr., Louise was preceded in death by three children, Oscar Jr., Martha Louise, and William Orene; and her four siblings, Mattie Mae Hall, Lena Berryman-Mitchell, Orine Chester Berryman, Jr. and Chester Obrine Berryman. Louise is survived by her son, Frank Johnson; her 19 grandchildren; over 30 great-grandchildren; eight great- great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Berryman of Dayton, Ohio; a special niece, Brenda Richards; and a host of other relatives.
