Mrs Frances Carolyn Mukes-Green

July 23, 1931 - July 9, 2021

Frances Carolyn Mukes Green was born on July 23, 1931, to the late Lucille Beatrice Fields Mukes and John Daniel Mukes in Frankfort, Kentucky. On Friday, July 9, 2021, she answered the Lord’s call and entered into eternal rest. Frances was the youngest of five daughters. After the death of their father, her mother moved with her children to be closer to family in Bracktown. Frances attended and joined church at an early age and was extremely active. Later they moved to Lexington, where she became a member of Consolidated Baptist Church. Frances attended Fayette County Public Schools, where in the eighth grade she met the love of her life, Walker Lewis Green. After graduating from the original Douglass High School with the Class of 1949, they were united in marriage on December 1, 1950. To this union one daughter was born, Sheila Elizabeth Green. While still a teenager, Frances began working at the Stirrup Cup on Broadway. After she was married, she began her employment at Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was encouraged to pursue career in nursing. After attaining the necessary training, she worked as a private duty nurse, at a nursing home and retired from the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Frances loved being a nurse, especially helping small children. Always present and supportive, Frances enjoyed the many activities in which her daughter Sheila was involved. She loved the joy and excitement of the holidays and treasured travelling to take vacation trips. After 42 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband. She was also predeceased by three of her four sisters, Hallie Long, Katherine Beatrice Turner and Julia Geneva Harden; and a grandson, Chad Rhae Carson. Frances leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sheila Elizabeth (William Doug) Smith of Louisville, Ky; a grandson, Cory Lewis (Erica) Carson; three great-granddaughters, LaKori Amaya, Kaylin Emilia and Karlie Rhae; a sister, Lucille Rosetta Dawson; a sister-in-law, Betty Green; nieces, JoCarolyn (Walter Lee) Edwards and Carol Lynn Harden; nephews, Mark (Merender) Turner, Atlanta, GA, Stephen A. (Brenda) Harden, Upper Marlboro, MD and John W. (Vicki) Harden, Clayton, OH; great-nephews, Roberto Carter, Rico Carter, Stephen Burbage, Orlando, FL and Corneal Burbage; and a host of other relatives including the Roy Mayfield Family, the Green Family and the Lawson Family, as well as many close friends.
